measured in every patient with heart failure. The advent of tissue Doppler (and other echo-Doppler techniques) has made it easier and more practical to identify abnormalities in diastolic function. Nonetheless, precise and comprehensive assessment of diastolic function requires the use of invasive catheterization techniques. However, if noncardiac and other cardiac causes of heart failure are excluded, the remaining patients with heart failure and a normal EF all have abnormalities of diastolic function making measurement of diastolic function confirmatory rather than a mandatory component of diagnostic criteria. Finally, I join Dr. Kessler in his enthusiastic use of the term “diastolic heart failure” and renew my editorial plea: “Stop the discrimination against the term diastolic heart failure.”

Effect of Opium Addiction on Aspirin Resistance in Stable Angina Pectoris
Background: The rate of cardiovascular diseases in developing countries is approximately 60% and it is still has an increasing trend. The clinical effectiveness of aspirin in preventing cardiovascular events has been well proven. Although aspirin is an effective and inexpensive drug, its consumption is not equally beneficial for all patients. Many factors can be affective on the efficacy of ant...
متن کاملA prospective, blinded determination of the natural history of aspirin resistance among stable patients with cardiovascular disease.
OBJECTIVES This study was designed to determine if aspirin resistance is associated with clinical events. BACKGROUND Aspirin resistance, defined by platelet function testing and presumed clinical unresponsiveness to aspirin, has been previously reported by our group and others. However, little information exists linking the laboratory documentation of aspirin resistance and long-term clinical...

Abstract Objective: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) have a markedly increased risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. There are some recommendations for prescription of aspirin in these patients. Our purpose was to determine aspirin usage rate in diabetic patients and to compare it in different ages and based upon cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors. Materials and M...
متن کاملAspirin resistance among patients with recurrent non-cardioembolic stroke detected by rapid platelet function analyzer
Background and Objective: The prevalence of aspirin resistance amongst patients with cardiovascular disease and in the healthy population has been reported to range from 5% to 45%. Lately, rapid platelet function analyzer (RPFA) a point-of-care determination of platelet aggregability has been introduced for rapid determination of aspirin resistant patients. The purpose of this paper is to repor...
